Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge drum students of any age or level with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve the student's speed and comfort.
Drummers may bring in their favourite drum parts to learn in their lessons and learning to read written drum music is guaranteed by the use of a variety of written material, method books and standardized testing. Did you know about the many great inventions that allow a drum student to:
PRACTICE QUIETLY?
For an Acoustic (regular) Drum kit:
a) "Blasticks" - plastic sticks with a thick brush-like tip that make a soft sound when they strike the drum skins and cymbals.
b) Practice pads - thick rubber pads that can be placed on top of the drum skins, on a coffee table, on your lap, etc... OR they can be attached to stands instead of drums! (a whole lot cheaper than a real kit)
c) Sound-off pads - special rubber keyhole-shaped pads that can be attached to the cymbals where you hit them, preventing the cymbal from ringing.
Electronic Drums:
a) Connected to an amplifier, you can control the volume and play with all kinds of funky electronic sounds.
b) Can be played while listening through earphones.

Practice Tip of the Week;
December 23, 2024: While you were practicing the hard parts of your music, you may have become tense or frustrated, or forgotten to sing or play musically or with good tone quality or technique. End your practice time by playing or singing something you like that is easy for you. Relax and "perform" it for yourself, playing with your very best technique and musicianship. During this part of your practices, develop a "repertoire" of music that you feel very comfortable and confident playing or singing. Then you'll always have something ready if people ask for a performance.
